Cindy Swiney, owner/operator of Cavorting K9s Retreat,
has been working with dogs for over 17 years. It started with teaching
the family dogs basic obedience and tricks and, after a hiatus for
university, continued with agility shortly after it’s introduction
into Canada. She has been teaching agility for over 12 years, has
given agility handling seminars across Canada and is one of the
founding agility instructors for K9
Express, where she teaches classes from beginners to competition.
She is a Masters level judge for the Agility
Association of Canada (AAC) and an Excellent level judge for
the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC).
She is also a founding member of Training
Troop and an active member of the Canadian
Kennel Club. She trains and competes, with her 18 dogs, most
often in agility but also the occasional herding trial. For over
9 years now, she has also been a foster home, behaviour and training
consultant for Border Collie Friends Rescue, as well as fostering
independently. She has worked with dogs of all behaviours and continues
to do so.
Auriel Tejas, aka Mom and co-owner of the Retreat,
has almost 50 years experience with life in the country. She too
has always been involved with animals, primarily horses. Currently,
a remedial massage therapist, she is working on setting up an HPA
recognized college for massage therapists here in Alberta. She also
has an interest in massage therapy for animals and works on our
own dogs, when she has a spare moment or two.
